About Me

I went through the eye of a hurricane at sea, handled being robbed at gunpoint, have traveled around a good part of the world alone, some of it in an ox cart or dugout canoe, learned to shoot to kill for self defense when I was 8, enjoyed being in the midst of a big land hurricane, allowed a burglar to sleep over (in the living room), drove a taxi cab on the all-night shift for over a year in Miami, Florida--when it was City of Vice--have lived in the North, South, East, and West of this country, died once, been in an earthquake,  traveled through the Guatemalan mountains in a bus without brakes, been lost in a blizzard, have lived overseas, was fully present to enjoy giving birth to my five children, lived in a Tibetan retreat center for nearly two years (spending 6 months in a silent retreat), and have been a real estate and stock investor. This peculiar history turned out to be excellent training for the entrepreneurial life.

I’d love to give you all the juicy adventure stories about how I learned the distinct methods I now use. But you don’t even know me, so instead of juicy stories, for now I’ll tell you how my background trained me to help you. If you get to know me I promise to give you some good stories.

Early in life I began traveling overseas with my family, gained exposure to many cultures, went to school in Costa Rica. Later, after majoring in Spanish at the University of Minnesota, my home state, I traveled the back roads of a good part of the world, coping with surprises. This experiential learning turned into a powerful information resource to help you to deal with the unexpected, and was enlarged through running my businesses.

I have been a successful businessperson, self-employed most of my life. Returning home from travels, I married, had five children, developed three distinct businesses in the three parts of the country where I lived, hired a variety of contract workers and virtual assistants, and gained a lot more experience. I also have been a real-estate developer and a stock investor: all of this giving a broad base for understanding the variety of your business pressures.

Women want to do business in a new, more caring and conscious way; to be socially responsible while also very successful, and look for a deeper level of sensitivity to, and knowledge about these issues.

Because I also wanted to develop as a more conscious and aware person, I sought a deeper level of training. After establishing the first business I discovered the need for much more balance and structure; I ran late, was rushed, and needed more order. I entered a very intense program, studying Eastern philosophies and psychology for 13 years. This was an education in training the mind, developing flexibility, and gaining self-reliance, with tools for the challenges of women in business.

Moving to the San Francisco Bay area for more studies, I lived in a Tibetan Buddhist center for higher learning, including spending 6 months in silence. Studying time, environment, communication and how we process information became a fascination. After all these studies I was asked to teach a class, which is a wonderful way to deepen and test your knowledge.

Called ‘Skillful Means to Work’, the class was about taking your daily experiences and learning how to transform them, through insight and awareness, into conscious work that fills you with energy and motivation to expand beyond limitations. I had students from around the world wanting to challenge them selves to be more creative and resourceful in their work. A farmer from Bolivia took the information to decide he could start an organic farm. A doctor from Holland returned home to start a center for spiritual growth tied to physical healing. Using tools from the class worked to change their lives.

Fifteen years ago I started this business in Berkeley, California. Working with entrepreneurs, professionals, and Fortune 500 companies, I helped men and women gain more order, balance, and ease in their work. The questions from clients led me to add strategizing and coaching to hands-on help.

Through coaching, a client wanting to expand her abilities, developed a complete redesign of her department at work. With strategizing we then put her in a position to manage the department.

Now I focus on just you, the woman running a small service business alone, and your specialized needs.

For example, one woman, starting a nutrition business while home-schooling two small children, got my help to set up a workable office, the plan for business development, and getting her schedule implemented to include the family and the business.

Another businesswoman, derailed by family pressures, worked with me to reconfigure her large home into multiple production centers. Then I coached her through family issues to free her productive work hours again.
